FERRARIS – Ruche Piemont
The Azienda Agricola surrounds a changing history, which began with money from the gold rush in America. After the purchase of some vineyards, the wine was sold to wholesalers and travelers. The revenues enabled the Ferraris family to acquire additional vineyards and expand their operations continuously. With the industrial boom in Turin, they stopped producing the wine themselves and gave the grapes to the cooperative instead.
It was not until 1999, when Luca Ferraris began to study winegrowing, that his own wine was gradually produced and the old wine cellar rebuilt. This time coincides with the rediscovery of a grape, almost forgotten in Piedmont, the Ruchè variety, a very aromatic red wine grape. Today, Luca Ferraris is the largest producer of wines of this Ruchè variety and the annual production consists of approximately 50,000 bottles.
The great achievement is the 2010 DOCG statutes for the Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato.
Ruchè di Castagnole Monferrato is regularly chosen among the top 10 Italian wines.
